Projection mapped animation
boxed in is an animation projection mapped onto an ordinary cardboard box. A person, cooped up in an apartment tries to focus on mundane everyday tasks, but is constantly distracted by a bird outside.
Concept
The project explores themes of isolation, distraction, and the tension between focus and curiosity through the medium of projection mapping on an ordinary cardboard box. The narrative follows a protagonist trying to maintain concentration on everyday tasks while being repeatedly drawn to look outside—a relatable experience of pandemic-era confinement.
Technical Approach
- Developed in OpenFrameworks in C++
- Used ofxWarp for projection mapping
- Animation synchronized to physical object
- Code available on GitHub
Narrative
The story captures the experience of being "boxed in" both physically (in an apartment) and mentally (trying to focus), with the bird representing the constant pull of the outside world and the difficulty of maintaining attention in isolation.
